"Who are you?
Who or what wants
to be known, so gently, powerfully present here
just beneath the surface?
What have you come
to share?

What if Life is
reshaping you now,
maybe differently than what you thought was inside you?

What if you are required to
both let go of something and open up to something?

The music is within you.
Be not afraid."

Willka T'ika Children's Fund

In the mid 1990’s Carol Cumes, with the
help of native and visiting  people, created
the Children’s Fund to  help two special native  teachers and their communities develop schools in the Quechua mountain communities of Patakancha and Kkapakmachay.

Located at altitudes of over 14,000 ft.
across rugged terrain, in areas sometimes
only passable on foot, these isolated villages are a magical ancient world of indigenous people whose traditions and colorful dress have not changed for centuries.

Here, through the mediums of song and dance, and with the help of books, stories   and Pachamama’s own resources, children
are learning to count, read and write in Quechua and Spanish, advancing in skills
that will one day prepare them to enter the modern world.

Every year more children come to the  schools, some walking across mountains
from villages 2–3 hours away, beginning
their walk at 5 a.m. The Patakancha and Kkapakmachay schools now serve over
200 children with the assistance of local communities and people like you. Enjoy
their remarkable story at www.willkatika.com

On behalf of Pachamama’s Children, thank you for your
  support.
In Carol Cumes’ words, “If you have not yet
  experienced a meeting with these
childre n, it is my wish that
one day you will get to
  see their smiles and hear
  their songs.
And if you
  are fortunate to have
  visited them, remember
  their love filling your heart
  as the uninhibited little
  ones placed their sticky
  little
hands into yours. As they grow older, may these
  Quechua mountain children
stand tall and gaze proudly into
  our eyes."
